Leipziger Volkszeitung (LVZ)

About the project

Enhancing the Brand Identity of LVZ

Leipziger Volkszeitung (LVZ) is a German language daily newspaper based and published in Leipzig and western Saxony, Germany. With a rich history and strong connection to social democracy, it covers a wide range of news and topics including local, national, and international news, politics, culture, sports, and more. It is among the oldest newspapers in Germany, with a history dating back to 1894. As a visual designer, I was commissioned to work on a range of design projects, including print and digital ads for their subscription service or events, artworks for various podcasts, promotional material such as stickers, city light posters, and logo design. In all projects, I followed the company's design guidelines and specifications, while infusing innovation and artistic flair to make the promotional materials visually captivating and unforgettable.

THE

CHALLENGE

Working on various design projects for LVZ presented several challenges. Firstly, maintaining consistency and aligning the designs across different formats required careful attention to detail. Additionally, understanding the essence of LVZ and its strong ties to social democracy was crucial to capture the brand's tone and values in the visuals. Furthermore, the artworks and designs I crafted showcased a wide range of graphic styles, each tailored to suit the unique requirements of the respective projects. Lastly, managing time constraints and delivering high-quality work within tight deadlines added to the project's complexity.

MY

APPROACH

To overcome these challenges, I started by researching LVZ's history, target audience, and design guidelines to gain a deep understanding of their identity and visual language. This helped me align my design approach with LVZ's brand values and ensure consistency across all projects. I also closely collaborated with the LVZ team to understand their requirements, gather feedback, and refine my designs iteratively.

THE

SOLUTION

For the ads promoting LVZ's subscription service, I created visually appealing designs that captured the newspaper's essence while highlighting the benefits of subscribing. By incorporating bold typography, vibrant colors, and engaging imagery, the ads effectively conveyed the message, attracting potential readers. When working on the artwork for LVZ's podcasts, I focused on creating eye-catching visuals that reflected the themes and personalities of each podcast. This involved creating unique illustrations or using striking imagery, along with consistent branding elements to maintain cohesiveness. For promotional materials like stickers and city light posters, I incorporated LVZ's logo and design elements while also implementing fresh and modern aesthetics. This balanced approach allowed the promotional items to stand out, drawing attention and effectively conveying the intended message. The projects for LVZ not only strengthened my expertise as a visual designer but also showcased my ability to adapt to different formats, industries, and branding guidelines

This case study showcases my versatility in handling diverse design projects for LVZ while maintaining its history and social democratic values.
